Walking through estates near Achtmaal

Achtmaal can easily be explored on foot. Just outside this nice Brabant village you walk through two connected estates: Wallsteyn and the Oude Buisse Heide. Put on your walking shoes for a varied and beautiful route.

Old Buisse Heide
The route starts on the Oude Buisse Heide, a nature reserve where forests and small-scale agriculture alternate. The poet Henriette Roland Holst spent many summers here with her husband. Near junction 25 you walk past a tea dome that was often used by the couple. The beautiful wooded landscape not only inspired the couple, it will also do you good. Ideal for a day of relaxation.

Wallsteyn estate
At De Toekomst in Achtmaal you can enjoy a well-deserved drink on the terrace. Enjoy a snack and drink before heading back into the countryside. Here you will find a mix of fields, meadows and streams. The many plots with small trees make your route extra varied. After a while you walk onto the wooded Wallsteyn Estate. You pass the monumental Annahoeve from 1925, behind which you see a glimpse of the nineteenth-century country house.
