Ravels, Flanders, Belgium
Hiking route: 792405
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Ravels is a beautiful village just above Turnhout in Belgium. Grab your walking shoes for a nice varied route.
Nightingale
Walking along the Meiboomlaan you will see the Nachtegaal der Maatvennen on the left: a poetic name for a corn mill from 1869. This mill grinds for a Dutch distillery of whiskey and jenever located just across the border. While you walk across the Gilseinde, you look out over the meadows.
Regional forests
You walk a bit through the Regional Forests. It is wonderfully quiet walking here between the mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. Then you walk along the leafy banks of the canal. At the end, the path turns into a low-traffic road that takes you between meadows and past a few plots of untouched forest. Back in Ravels you walk past the Saint Servatius church from 1908, the choir dates from the sixteenth century.
