Fortified towns along the Waal

You will find many beautiful places along the Waal. And not to forget: natural beauty! The route immediately starts well: from Zaltbommel. You cross the Waal, at Farm Camping De Hoge Haren you can stop for a coffee. You then make quite a few kilometers along the flowery floodplains on the Waaldijk. Fort Vuren is a historical hotspot from 1844, you can take a pit stop here. In the fortified town of Gorinchem you will find many monuments in the city center, such as the Dalempoort from 1597. On the other side of the river you drive through Woudrichem, another old fortified town. Then you cycle a bit along the Dammed Maas. Floodplains and picturesque villages alternate here. From Aalst you drive through the Bommelerwaard. Enjoy the silence in the polders.
