Description

On the Lek you will pass through two towns with a rich history: Culemborg and Wijk bij Duurstede. In the Betuwe lies another such historical gem: Buren. At 't VeerHuys you can enjoy a delicious meal, so that you can get on the ferry and then on your bike with a full stomach. First you ride along the Lek to Culemborg. In the old city center you can still experience the atmosphere of times gone by. Further on you pass the Johanna, a corn mill from 1888. In the polders it is wonderful to cycle on roads where few cars drive. You look out over meadows and orchards. No matter how small Buren is, the former fortified town is dotted with monumental buildings, such as the fifteenth-century Sint Lambertuskerk. The fortifications are still largely intact, so you can soak up some history here.
