On the Lek you pass through two towns with a rich history: Culemborg and Wijk bij Duurstede. Another historic gem is located in the Betuwe: Buren. At 't VeerHuys you can enjoy a tasty meal, so that you can get on the ferry with a well-filled stomach and afterwards on your bike. First you drive along the Lek to Culemborg. In the old city center you can still experience the atmosphere of a bygone era. Further on you pass the Johanna, a flour mill from 1888. In the polders it is wonderful to cycle on roads where there are few cars. You look out over meadows and orchards. However small Buren may be, the former fortified town is dotted with monumental buildings, such as the fifteenth-century Sint Lambertuskerk. The fortifications are still largely intact, so you can soak up some history here.
