Walking through the Kleine Weerd

De Kleine Weerd is a special nature reserve on the Maas in Maastricht. Put on your waterproof hiking boots and come and discover the Kleine Waard.

You walk through the greenery along a gravel pond, occasionally you have beautiful views of the boats that float here in a marina. On the other side of the Maas you can see the wooded Sint-Pietersberg.

The maas
De Kleine Weerd is a former island in the Maas. It was part of the same piece of land on which you can now see the Gouvernement from a distance, the provincial house of Limburg. De Kleine Weerd has recently been redecorated. The former fields and grasslands are now developing into a mix of swamp, rough grasslands and marsh forest. The area has also been divided in two by digging a trench. It is unique walking here!
