The Biesbosch and Kinderdijkse Mills

Just above Alblasserdam you cycle past a unique and world-famous Dutch icon: the Kinderdijkse Mills. A little later you drive through the Biesbosch National Park: another beautiful Dutch gem.

Alblasserdam
The route starts at Het Wapen van Alblasserdam, a cozy location at the Alblasserdam marina. You drive along the Noord river to the village of Kinderdijk. A little further on are the Kinderdijkse Mills: nineteen polder mills that form two mill corridors. They were built in the eighteenth century to improve the drainage of the Alblasserwaard. The mills have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997. Also further along you will see some old mills on the Alblas river.

Alblasserbos
You pass through the Alblasserbos, a beautiful nature reserve in the Alblasserwaard. Cycling along the dike along the Beneden Merwede, you can enjoy views of the rippling water, the floodplains and monumental old buildings. You can cross the river on a ferry and cycle through the unspoilt nature of the Brabantse Biesbosch. What a silence! You drive back along the banks of the Wantij and again the Noord to Het Wapen van Alblasserdam.
