The Erft cycle route, which is located in a scenic area of about 110 kilometres, runs from its source near Nettersheim to the mouth of the Rhine near Neuss on a route of around 110 kilometres. The Erft crosses part of the'Rheinische Bucht\\\', the region with the most moated castles in Germany, and continues along the stone witnesses from Roman times, defensive fortresses, mighty castles from the time of the knights and impressive castles from the best times of the Rhenish nobility to the impressive witnesses of modern art and technology. In Paffendorf Castle, for example, you can visit the RWE information center with an exhibition about the Rheinische lignite region. With a subsequent detour to the open-pit mining Hambach, you will see one of the largest man-made holes in the world, before you start the last stage and experience pure culture with the Museum Insel Hombroich and the Clemens-Sels-Museum.
In short: a route that could hardly be more varied. The special thing is that the cyclist can cycle almost continuously next to the river and under favorable topographical conditions. Along the entire route, the bicycle-friendly gastronomy and hotel industry invite you to linger.
