The three Frisian beauties

In Friesland there are three beautiful nature reserves within a short distance: the Drents-Friese Wold, the Dwingelderveld and the Fochteloerveen. In between you will also pass through the beautiful Hijkerveld, a beautiful Drenthe.

National Park From Kramer Bicycle Service Appelscha you drive to the Drents-Friese Wold. You cycle here through vast forests. The Aekingerzand, also called the Kale Duinen, is a special sub-area of this national park. Here, wind and weather have free play, so that the shifting sand creates a unique landscape. On low-traffic roads you drive a bit through the agricultural countryside. You will pass some old farms, such as in Lhee. Further on you drive along the heathland and fens of the Dwingelderveld.

Drenthe The Hijkerveld is one of the largest heathlands in Drenthe. Large parts of this quiet place were inhabited until the Iron Age. From that period there are still burial mounds and remains of walled comb fields (also called celtic fields). Finally, you will pass through the Fochteloerveen, one of the best preserved high moor areas in the Netherlands. Step off to enjoy the natural beauty and silence at your leisure!
