The 73 km long cycling route'Wasserquintett\\\' connects five Oberbergian dams with each other: From the station Marienheide you first go to the Brucher dam. You continue along the water in the direction of Müllenbach, where a small church with cheerful wall paintings invites you to take a look. The route continues to Dannenberg, to the highest point of the themed route at 460 meters above sea level. This is followed by a descent to the source of the Wupper and on to the Lingesetalsperre. From here the route continues via the Bergisches Panorama cycle path, a decommissioned train line, to Ohl. Here, a look at the gunpowder factories as well as a visit to the gunpowder museum, where the history of black gold is told, is highly recommended. The route continues on the decommissioned train line to Wipperfürth. The Hanseatic city is almost 800 years old and was founded in 1217. Past the Bevertal dam, continue to the castle town of Hückeswagen, where you reach the Wupper dam. From the Kräwinkler bridge you drive on a decommissioned train track towards Radevormwald. Via the heights of the Bergisches Land you continue cycling through several small villages, back to the starting point in Marienheide.
In particular, the section between Marienheide and Hückeswagen is also suitable for families and less sporty cyclists due to the slight incline on the decommissioned train route.
North Rhine-Westphalia is just over the Dutch border, about two hours from the Randstad. This beautiful region is perfect for short active holidays with something for everyone.
