The 30-kilometre circular route leads through interesting landscapes to the individual stations of the energy production. This way you can discover the energy landscape of the'Energy Capital\\\' in a varied way. The energy path clearly shows you the connection between energy extraction, open-pit coal mining and reclamation.
The route passes the extra lignite grove, from its plants the lignite originated 30 million years ago. Further stations are the open pit Garzweiler, which shows the dimensions of the lignite extraction and the Neurath power station, where the lignite is made into electricity. The wind energy installations on the Vollrather and Frimmensdorfer Höhe as well as the former largest photovoltaic installation in Germany at Lake Neurather See are also points along the route that show you and make understandable the possibilities of renewable energy.
