Description
This walking route takes you over the dike along the Hollandse IJssel. You also walk through Oudewater for a bit.
Dutch IJssel
You will soon walk onto the Waardsedijk, a car-free road along the Hollandse IJssel. You look out on grassy and flowery polders, straight ditches and pollard willows. Every now and then you see an old farm. As the road approaches the river a little, you look out over the rippling water. You can get a breath of fresh air here and relax.
Oudewater
You walk along the river into Oudewater, the oldest town in the Green Heart. You will find a characteristic Dutch atmosphere here. Especially if you cross the Hollandse IJssel via the monumental drawbridge from 1760. In the hamlet of Willeskop you can still see some old farms. You will also pass Gemaal De Pleyt, which pumps water from the Lopikerwaard to the Hollandse IJssel.
