Description
This walking route takes you over the dike along the Hollandse IJssel. You also walk a bit through Oudewater.
Dutch IJssel
Soon you walk onto the Waardsedijk, a car-free road along the Hollandse IJssel. You look out over grassy and flowery polders, straight ditches and pollard willows. Every now and then you see an old farm. When the road gets closer to the river, you look out over the rippling water. You can really blow away the cobwebs and unwind here.
Oldwater
Along the river you walk a bit into Oudewater, the oldest town in the Groene Hart. You will find a characteristic Dutch atmosphere here. Certainly if you cross the Hollandse IJssel via the monumental drawbridge from 1760. In the hamlet of Willeskop you can still see a few old farms. You will also pass Gemaal De Pleyt that pumps water from the Lopikerwaard up to the Hollandse IJssel.
