Walking through Giethoorn and the Wieden

Your route starts at Café Restaurant De Otterskooi in the lovely Dwarsgracht. The charm of Giethoorn can be easily discovered through a walk. Walking along the banks of the Molengat you have a beautiful view over the rippling water, you also see a tsjasker from 1979. Further on you will experience where Giethoorn owes its nickname as'Venice of the North\\\'. To transport the extracted peat, canals and ditches were dug here. This created small islands, on which houses were built that can only be reached via bridges. Along the canal you pass many characteristic monumental farms, houses and arched bridges. You can get a breath of fresh air along the edge of De Beulakerwijde, while you walk back to Dwarsgracht: another picturesque water village. And much less crowded than Giethoorn!
