Cycling through Hoorn and the West Frisian polder

Hoorn is a beautiful town where you can still view many old buildings. In the countryside you drive through the vast polders and get a breath of fresh air along the Markermeer.

VOC
You start the route on the edge of Hoorn. You drive between the fruit orchards to the Krijgsman Windmill: its two predecessors were killed by wind and lightning. A little later you cycle through the old center of Hoorn. Here you will see beautiful buildings with sober or richly decorated facades. Onder De Boompjes is located on the non-filled part of the Turfhaven, where you will see two former VOC warehouses and the charming Pakhuisbrug.

Markermeer
In the polder you will soon see the Groote Molen from 1638. You drive up the dike along the Markermeer. You regularly have views over the rippling water, and on the left you see neatly divided meadows and bell-shaped farms. Just past Hoogkarspel you make a stop at Fruitkwekerij't Keetje. Time for a fruit juice or coffee with homemade apple pie. There are many bulb fields around Wervershoof, it gives your route a nice colorful touch!
