Weert, Limburg, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 776496
Provided by: Groots Genieten
In the outskirts of Weert you can take a nice walk through the Laurabossen. This varied nature area is part of GrensPark Kempen-Broek.
Mining Company
Originally there was a heathland and shifting sand area here. From 1900, coniferous trees were planted for the production of wooden piles for the Limburg mining company Laura en Vereeniging. The forest owes its name to this mining company. You will mainly see Scots pine, Corsican pine and Douglas fir here. In recent years, birch and oak trees have also been planted in various places to make the forest more varied.
heather
Part of the route you walk over a remnant of the former heathland. Common heather alternates with pipe straw, winding smele and blackberry. A beautiful place where it is wonderfully quiet. To prevent the heath from growing over with trees and shrubs, it is grazed by Scottish highlanders.
