The Betuwe is not only known for its beautiful fruit orchards. Cycling is also great in this beautiful landscape. This route also takes you through some old villages.
Neerijnen estate
You drive through Geldermalsen, where you can see De Bouwing, a flour mill from 1848. Further on you can easily taste the historic atmosphere in Neerijnen: the town enjoys a protected village view. Neerijnen Castle originally dates from the fourteenth century. The beautiful church was completed in 1865.
Waaldijk
Cycling on the Waaldijk you look out over the unspoilt Heesseltse floodplains. In Varik you have a beautiful view over the Waal. On the left you pass the fortified fifteenth-century tower of a former church, further on is De Bol: a flour mill from 1867. You then drive through a few old villages where you can admire monumental farms and churches, such as Wadenoijen, Kapel-Avezaath and Erichem. How beautiful the Betuwe is!
