Just outside Haaksbergen, in the border area with Germany, there are some beautiful nature reserves. This route takes you through the Buurserzand and the Haaksbergerveen.
The route starts at the edge of the Buurserzand. This quiet nature reserve is unique in Europe due to its size and wet character. You will see a mosaic of moors with hundred-year-old junipers, forests, small fields and a few orchid meadows. A little further on you drive through the Haaksbergerveen, one of the most beautiful raised moor areas in the Netherlands. At Restaurant Het Muldershuis you make a pit stop, you can see the Mallumse Molen from 1748. What a beautiful spot!
Rekken is a beautiful village on the Berkel. Here you will see the Piepermolen, a flour mill from 1796. Then you drive through a part of Germany. Here too you cycle on car-free roads, so that you can fully enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility. Such as the Ammeloer Venn, a nature reserve with wet and rough grasslands where many birds live. At the border you pass the Haarmühle, a 350 year old water mill.
