Through Eibergen, Groenlo and the German border area

Eibergen and Groenlo are two places worth seeing in the Achterhoek, fun to explore by bike. In the border area you pass through a few special nature reserves.

Fortress town of Groenlo
At Restaurant Het Muldershuis you can sit on a terrace before you get on your bike. On the other side you will see the Mallumse Molen, a monumental corn and peeling mill from 1748. In Eibergen you will pass the Oude Mattheüskerk from 1500. Further on you will drive through Groenlo, a former fortified town. In the well-preserved old center you will see many beautiful buildings. The Old Calixtus Church was built between 1275 and 1520.

Haaksbergerveen
In the countryside you drive on car-free roads through the scenic landscape. Just across the border you drive through the rugged swamp of the Zwillbrocker Venn, one of the oldest nature reserves in Germany. Further afield there is another special nature reserve: the Haaksbergerveen, one of the most beautiful raised bog areas in the Netherlands. Here is a mix of marshy raised bogs, vast heathlands, woods and grasslands. Step off and enjoy the natural beauty and silence!
