Along beautiful old windmills in the Alblasserwaard

In the sparsely populated Alblasserwaard it is wonderfully quiet cycling through the polder. You can see many windmills here, including the one at Kinderdijk. You will also pass through beautiful towns such as Noordeloos and Ameide.

Kinderdijk windmills
From the dike you look out on a vast polder landscape of meadows, watercourses and old farms. The Lek ripples along with you on the right. You regularly see a beautiful polder mill. The highlight, of course, is the world-famous Kinderdijkse Molens, the windmill corridors that are on the Unesco World Heritage List.

Old Ameide
In the Alblasserwaard you will also find many picturesque villages, such as Molenaarsgraaf and Goudriaan. Further on you pass through Noordeloos where you can still experience the atmosphere of days gone by in the village centre. Switch back in Ameide to enjoy the historic buildings. This beautiful town on the Lek is one of the oldest cities in Holland! Finally, you will pass through the former fortified city of Nieuwpoort.
