In the sparsely populated Alblasserwaard it is wonderfully quiet cycling through the polder. You see many mills here, including those at Kinderdijk. You also pass through beautiful places such as Noordeloos and Ameide.
Kinderdijk Mills
From the dike you look out over a vast polder landscape of meadows, waterways and old farms. On the right, the Lek babbles along with you. You regularly see a beautiful polder mill. With the highlight of course the world-famous Kinderdijkse Molens, the mill passages that are on the Unesco World Heritage List.
Old Ameide
In the Alblasserwaard you will also find many picturesque villages, such as Molenaarsgraaf and Goudriaan. Further on you will pass through Noordeloos where you can still experience the atmosphere of times gone by in the village centre. Switch back in Ameide to enjoy the historical buildings. This beautiful town on the Lek is one of the oldest cities in Holland! Finally you will pass through the former fortified town of Nieuwpoort.
