Mountain and Chapel

East of Oudenaarde you walk through the rolling Flemish Ardennes. You enjoy the panorama\\\'s and the rich cultural history. Along the way you will find plenty of restaurants for refreshment.

Maarkebeek Valley
The route starts in the countryside. You immediately have a beautiful panorama here. On an unpaved path you walk between the agricultural fields to Kerselare, a place of pilgrimage. A chapel has stood here since the fifteenth century, although it burned down several times. Then you descend to the Maarkebeek valley, a bocage landscape with poplar groves, hedges and wooded edges. Here you can see the former Ladeuzemolen, a watermill with an ancient history.

Picturesque Mater
You climb up again between the meadows. You pass some old farms. You also cross the Flemish Ardennesdreef, the well-known steep road that cyclists take when they climb the Achterberg in a classic. On the Edelareberg you can see the St. Martin's Church, among other things. You screech the Volkegemberg and Wolvenberg, before climbing over a cobblestone road to Mater. You can admire the historic village square here, before walking back to the starting point.
