Description
It is wonderful to travel miles in the Flemish Meetjesland. This route takes you past castles and through the open polder land with its many streams and ditches.
Wippelgem Castle
You start in a beautiful place: at Wippelgem Castle. Here you will see, among other things, a beautiful country house. When you drive down the leafy driveway, you will see the Church of Our Lady ten Troost from 1856. Then you drive on car-free roads through the open polder land. You cycle past grassy meadows, fields and streams. You regularly pass a beautiful old farm and a small roadside chapel. You will also have no trouble finding a cozy tavern for a pit stop.
Evergem
Lovendegem Castle is a beauty, the centuries-old building has a nineteenth-century appearance. The village center of Hansbeke enjoys a protected village view. You will see many characteristic old buildings there. The St. Peter and Paul Church dates from 1793. Further on you drive along the canal. On the right is the Oude Kalevallei, a beautiful nature reserve. Evergem is the largest town on the route. Here you will see, among other things, the St. Christopher's Church from 1785. What a surprisingly beautiful region!
