In the Flemish Ardennes you will find some picturesque old villages. This route takes you through Meilegem, Beerlegem, Dikkele and Paulatem.
Kaaihoeve
The route starts in the Kaaimeersen. This beautiful nature reserve is wedged between the Scheldt and an old Scheldt arm. Here you will see flowery meadows, reed collars and pools. Further on you will pass the Kaaihoeve, an eighteenth-century farm that houses an education center. Meilegem is the first village on your route, where you will see, among other things, the classicist St. Martin's Church from 1784. Neighboring Beerlegem also has a nice village center. Here you will see, among other things, the St. Andrew's Church.
Dikke
You walk along an unpaved road through the Munkbosbeek valley. Here you will find a mix of forest and wet grasslands. From junction 80, walk into Brouwerijstraat. You will then experience for yourself why Dikkele is on the list of the 50 most beautiful Flemish villages! In small Paulatem you will pass the St. Gangulfus Church, which originally dates from the twelfth century. Then you take a short walk through the park forest of Ter Biezen Castle.
