As you approach Hasselt, you can see the Grote or Sint Stefanuskerk from 1497 from afar. It enjoys national fame thanks to its beautiful Knol organ and a mural of Christoffel, the patron saint of travellers. Hasselt has beautifully restored buildings, such as the old town hall and the unique lime burners that ensured that Hasselt counted as a Hanseatic city.
