Walking around Marken

Marken is a beautiful walking gem. On foot you can fully enjoy the well-preserved old buildings. And in the countryside it is wonderfully quiet.

Gouwzee
At Brasserie Restaurant De Taanketen you can first have something tasty to eat, so that you can set off with sufficient energy. You first walk through the old harbor of Marken. You can still experience the authentic atmosphere of the fisherman's life here. You then walk along the dike along the edges of this former island. Get a breath of fresh air, while looking out over the rippling water of the Gouwzee. On the other side are vast grasslands where the cows graze quietly.

Rozewerf
On the south side you walk along Rozewerf, one of the neighborhoods on Marken. You can see beautiful wooden houses here. The Paard van Marken is one of the most beautiful places during your walk. This striking lighthouse dates from 1839. In 1971, the tower was pushed a few centimeters out of place by drifting ice! On the north side of the island you can see the Bukdijk: a never-completed dike to impolder the Markerwaard.
