Description
From Marken you can take a trip to some beautiful towns in the Waterland. You cycle through Volendam, Edam and Monnickendam. In addition to the rich cultural history, you can also enjoy the peace and space in the polder.
Volendam
Your route starts well: from Marken you sail by boat across the Markermeer to the port of Volendam. Here too you will find a characteristic atmosphere, nice! You drive over the dike to the port of Edam, where you will see beautiful old buildings. Pietersbrug is also located here, a charming monumental wooden drawbridge. Further on you see the earthen walls of the Fort at Edam, which is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam.
Play tower
Cycling along the dike you will see some bell-shaped farms and look out over the bird-rich fields. On the edge of Purmerend you drive through the Purmerbos, a strikingly wooded zone in this polder country. In the city center of Monnickendam you will see many houses with stepped, bell or pointed gables. You will pass the Speeltoren, a town hall tower that has housed a museum since 1981. On Marken you can enjoy a delicious meal at Brasserie Restaurant De Taanketel.
