Description
In the Waterland you cycle through many beautiful old towns. You will also pass the Ilperveld, a unique nature reserve. As icing on the cake, you can explore picturesque Marken.
Durgerdam
From Brasserie Restaurant De Taanketel you drive a bit across Marken. This former island has managed to preserve its characteristic wooden houses and culture, so that it is now a unique attraction. You then drive many kilometers along the Markermeer over the dike. That's nice to get out and about! In Durgerdam you see one ancient wooden house after the other. What a beautiful village!
Monnickendam
In the Waterland you cycle through a mosaic of grasslands, ditches and reed beds. The Ilperveld is a well-preserved peat meadow area: it turned out to be unsuitable for agriculture. In the middle of this quiet nature reserve you come through Watergang. Here you see characteristic black tarred hay houses, the village church dates from 1642. Monnickendam is the next historic town on your route. Step off to enjoy the many beautiful facades.
