Discover the mills in the area around Oterleek

This cycling tour takes you through the countryside of Oterleek.

Schermerpolder
In Oterleek you will see the first sight: Molen de Oterleek, an octagonal corn mill from 1900. The mill turns and grinds regularly. Further on is the Ambachtsmolen, a polder mill from 1632. On the Hoornse Vaart you will pass four monumental ironing mills from 1630. On the left you look out over the Oudorperhout, a unique meadow area in the middle of the city. From Alkmaar you drive through the Schermerpolder. In Zuidschermer you can admire the Zwarte Kerkje from 1665, one of the few remaining bell-shaped churches.

Fort
After you have cycled along the western part of the Eilandspolder, you cycle along the flowery banks of the Markervaart. On the left you see the ramparts of Fort Marken-Binnen. Just before junction 89 you have a beautiful view over the beginning of the river De Zaan. Further on you see the ramparts of Fort Spijkerboor in the landscape. To the right of the dike you look out over the Beemsterpolder. Just after Rustenburg you pass three old ironing mills. A beautiful Dutch picture!
