A day in the woods? Then drive this route across the Veluwe. You pass through Planken Wambuis, the Hoenderlose Bos and the Deelerwoud. In between, only the village of Otterlo is on your route.
Planks doublet
Mainly Scots pines grow here to curb the drifting sand. You also drive over some heathlands. At junction 63 you suddenly look out over vast fields. A little further away is the Mosselse Zand, a drifting sand area that is grazed by a herd of wild ponies and sheep. Don't be surprised if some deer walk among them.
Deelerwoud
Cycling through the cozy Dorpsstraat of Otterlo you will see the Reformed Church, this beautiful building partly dates from the thirteenth century. Further on is L56: The Battle of Otterlo. The Hoenderlose Bos is a natural forest. Here you see a nice mix between coniferous and deciduous trees. Finally, you drive through the Deelerwoud. Here you will find extensive forests and large heathlands in a rolling landscape. It is very quiet here, even quieter than on the Hoge Veluwe.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
