This route through Leiden and the surrounding area first takes you through Sassenheim. Here you will see, among other things, the impressive ruins of Slot Teylingen. This moated castle originally dates from the thirteenth century. In the polders you pass the Lisserpoel mill from 1676, further along is the monumental Gemaal De Leeghwater from 1845. Cycling along the Huigsloterdijk you have a beautiful view of rippling water and grassy meadows. You make a shortcut to the Droogeerde Veender and Lijkerpolder, after which you drive via Rijpwetering to the Boterhuispolder. Cycling along the canal of Leiden you can enjoy the many beautiful old buildings. De Put is a flour mill that originally dates from 1619. At Catwalk Koffie & Lunch it is time for a pit stop, after which the route takes you back to Sassenheim via Warmond.
