Cycling along Dutch lakes and rivers

A day of cycling along Dutch lakes and winding rivers? Then indulge yourself on this route. You drive along the Westeinderplassen and the Amstel. Along the way you will pass plenty of historical sights.

Westeinderplassen
The route starts in the middle of the polders of the Groene Hart. The first kilometers you can relax your legs, just above Langeraar you have a beautiful view over the puddles. The Westeinderplassen were created by peat extraction, but have never been drained. The Fort near Kudelstaart, which is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam, is located on the water. In Uithoorn you drive through the Zijdelmeer recreational area, and on the Amstelkade it is nice to cycle past beautiful buildings.

Castle Loenersloot
Cycling along the meandering Wavre you see many old farms along the dike. Grassy meadows full of cows, rippling water: you drive here through a real Dutch decor. At Café-restaurant Bon you can take a break for something to eat. In Baambrugge and Loenersloot you will see beautiful monumental buildings, you will also pass the thirteenth-century Loenersloot Castle. Further on you drive along the Kromme Mijdrecht. Due to settling, the meadows are lower than the river. Really Dutch too!
