Description

City coziness and the romance of the beach and dunes! From Leiden you cycle to stately Wassenaar, known for its monumental villas and estates. Get off here at Restaurant de Baron to grab a terrace! Then you cycle through Berkheide, a nature reserve that consists of small valleys and parabolic dunes. In some places, bushes and shrubs grow. The many dune roses that bloom in the spring are striking. And the former agricultural fields where dune pipits were grown. You will also come across many remains from the Second World War here. Not surprisingly, the Atlantic Wall passed through this area. Some old bunkers now serve as hibernation sites for bats. Katwijk is home to a wealth of monuments and attractions, such as old churches, the Spinoza House and of course the dune landscape.
