Leiden, South Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 771857

City cosiness and the romance of the beach and dunes! From Leiden you cycle to the stately Wassenaar, known for its monumental villas and estates. Then you cycle through Berkheide, a nature reserve consisting of small valleys and parabolic dunes. In some places there are bushes and thickets. The many dune roses that bloom in the spring are striking. And the former agricultural fields where dune pipits were grown. You will also come across many remains from the Second World War here. Not surprising, the Atlantic Wall ran through this area. Some old bunkers now serve as a wintering place for bats. Katwijk is home to a wealth of monuments and attractions, such as old churches, the Spinoza House and of course the dune landscape.
