Walking along the Golden Ham

The Gouden Ham is a recreational lake on the Maas. Do you fancy a day of fresh air and rippling water? Then walk this route along the lake and the Maas bank.

The Gouden Ham was created by sand extraction between 1960 and 1980. It is now a wetland recreation and nature reserve. Walking along the dike you have beautiful views over the rippling water, on the right are grassy meadows. You regularly pass an old farm. You will also pass the Ronde Molen, a former flour mill from 1740. You can eat something here at Restaurant De Korenmolen. Further on, to the left of the road, you will see a characteristic nineteenth-century dike warehouse.

With a ferry you cross the Maas, nice and nostalgic! Then you walk along the Maas bank. You have a beautiful view of the river and the surrounding area. It is a wonderfully quiet walk here, ideal for shaking off the daily routine. After you have crossed the Maas again, you walk a bit along the Moringerwaarden. Here you will see flowery grasslands, shrubs and deciduous trees.
