Description

On the Terletse Heide you walk on historic ground. You can see traces from the Second World War, but also from longer ago: the Ice Age to be precise.

Meltwater valley
You soon see why the glider airfield was built here: this is a former meltwater valley consisting of sand and gravel, so nice and solid. The nearby Deelen airfield, for example, is also built on a meltwater valley.

German radio sentinel station
It is a strange idea that you are walking on a soil that was formed in the penultimate Ice Age, about 150,000 years ago. At that time there was still a huge ice cap over the Netherlands, which also caused various moraines that you can see beautifully on the Veluwe. On the Terletse Heide you can see the mast of the national communication system of the police and emergency services. It was built on the foundations of the German radio station Teerose III.
