Description
In the Alblasserwaard you walk through a typical Dutch landscape. An ideal route to get a breath of fresh air.
Giessen
You walk through Pinkenveer on a car-free road. This hamlet owes its name to a crossing of one-year-old cattle (\\\'pinken\\\') over the Giessen. Along the side of the road you see ditches, pollard willows and monumental old farms. Further on you walk along the dead straight Smoutjesvliet, an old drainage canal and waterway. Here you have wide views over vast grasslands.
Slingelandse Plassen
The Slingelandse Plassen are a water-rich nature and recreation area. From the leafy path you have beautiful vistas over the water. You will see many species of plants and birds. You then walk past a small wooded area to the Giessen. You follow this meandering river through the meadows. Enjoy the silence, while looking out at the rippling water and the swaying reed collars. After a while you pass the Oudendijkse Molen, a polder mill from 1683. What a picture!
