Amersfoort, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 770843
Provided by: Groots Genieten
On the east side of Amersfoort you walk through two beautiful nature reserves: the Schammer and Bloeidaal. Put on your waterproof hiking boots and discover how beautiful nature can look close to the city.
The Shammer
First you walk through the Schammer, a nature reserve between the Barneveldse Beek and the Valley Canal. This area was redecorated in the winter of 2011. You will now find a pristine landscape of flowery hay meadows, marshland and swaying reeds. It's wide and quiet here. Ideal for leaving the daily routine behind.
Bloom valley
You walk a bit through Bloeidaal. Here, too, the landscape may change. Birds such as barn swallows, black-tailed godwits and curlews live in the wet, poor grasslands. Plants such as Spanish horseman, bell gentian and spotted orchid grow there. Just like in the Schammer, in Bloeidaal you can see how large parts of the Gelderse Vallei used to be annexes. You walk the last part of the route through Park Rustenburg.
