Both sides of the Brabantse Wal

West of the Brabantse Wal you drive through a vast and watery landscape. On the east side you can enjoy the silence in the vast forests. And in the middle is the beautiful historic center of Bergen op Zoom.

Wetland
From't Appeltje you drive to the Natuurpodium Visitor Center. Then you drive through the woods of the Zoomland Estate. In the city center of Bergen op Zoom you will find many beautiful monumental buildings. What a nice historic atmosphere! Then you drive past Molenplaat and the Markiezaatsmeer. Two nature reserves where you can get a breath of fresh air. The Markiezaatsmeer is the largest wetland in the Netherlands after the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. Many birds live on the water, about 125 species breed there every year.

Abbey woods
In Belgium you pass through the picturesque village of Zandvliet, which is located on the Scheldt-Rhine Canal. Then you drive many kilometers through the forests of the De Zoom-Kalmthoutse Heide border park. Take a deep breath and enjoy the fresh air. Just below Hoogerheide you drive through the Abbey Forests. You will pass the former Volksabdij, which was built in the 1930s by and for unemployed young people. Now it houses a tourist office.
