Carthusian Route

This walking route takes you through the surroundings of Sint-Martens-Lierde, a village in the Dender region. Put on your sturdy shoes for a beautiful trip over hilly, rural roads and picturesque village squares.

Carthusian Priory
You start the walk in Sint-Martens-Lierde. And in a very picturesque place: the area where a former Carthusian priory once stood. The monastery has not been preserved, but some eighteenth-century buildings have been preserved, such as the presbytery, the monastery church, the entrance gate and part of the guest quarters. You will also see beautiful buildings at other places along the route, such as old farms, chapels and the parish church of Sint-Jan de Baptist on the beautiful village square of Hemelveerdegem.

Water mill
On a car-free road you walk along gently sloping fields and fields. In this wide landscape you regularly have beautiful views. Get a breath of fresh air and relax, that will not cost you any effort with this route. What a wonderfully peaceful region! You cross the Watermolenbeek. At this stream you can see the old Lindeveld mill on the left of the road, a mill that once belonged to the Carthusian priory in Sint-Martens-Lierde.
