Discover the Wezepse Heide

The esdorp Wezep, which is located on the edge of the Veluwe, is best known for the military barracks in the wooded area. Surrounding this is the Wezepse Heide, an area that will amaze you with the silence and tranquility that can be found there. The Wezepse Heide is approximately 225 hectares in size. The landscape consists of pine forests and small groups of deciduous trees that alternate with heathlands. Here you can wander among the shrub heath, box heath and crow heather. Many dog owners let their dogs run free here and walkers often explore the area off the paths to visit the many nest boxes where different types of bird pairs breed. Previously, the Wezepse Heide was an area where water was extracted. Water company VITENS now manages the Wezepse Hei. They regularly let Scottish Highlanders graze the heath, but they also mow it regularly.
