In the Waterland you drive through a low-lying polder land that was won over the sea after centuries of battle. You will find plenty of peace and space. In Amsterdam you cycle a bit along the IJ and over the IJburg.
Marker lake
You start this route at the Kinselmeer. While cycling on the dike, you can get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the view over the Markermeer. At Uitdam you look out over the Uitdammer Die, a former estuary of the Zuiderzee. You drive through the fields on a car-free road. What peace and space you will find here just outside Amsterdam! An ideal area to relax. In the picturesque Zunderdorp you can still see some old wooden houses.
Durgerdam
't Schouw is a former seventeenth-century transfer point in the tow barge traffic between Amsterdam and Hoorn. You enter Amsterdam-Noord along the Noordhollandsch Kanaal. You pass D\\\'Admiraal, a chalk mill from 1792. Further on you drive on a leafy path that runs through the middle of the Nieuwe Diep lake. You see many ancient wooden houses here, what a beautiful village!
