Amsterdam, North Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 767786
Provided by: Groots Genieten
What a wonderfully varied route: you walk through the Indische Buurt, the Diemerpark and through the De Diemerpolder recreation area. So much nature in a cosmopolitan city like Amsterdam!
Diemerzeedijk
The route starts in the Indische Buurt. On Benkoelenstraat and Javastraat you can see some of the Berlage blocks: monumental residential blocks from 1915. If you cross the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal a little later via the Amsterdamse Brug, you have a beautiful view of the area. You walk up the Diemerzeedijk, which dates back to the thirteenth century and protected the country against the former Zuiderzee. You pass the Gemeenlandshuis van Diemen, a striking building from 1727.
Nescio Bridge
You cross the canal again via the Nescio bridge, after which you walk between the trees along the rippling water. After a while you will see the Diemerpolder recreation area on your right: it seems as if you are walking through the countryside here, it is so wide and peaceful! You walk back past the Flevopark into the Indische Buurt.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
