Going out around Hellevoetsluis

The old fortified town of Hellevoetsluis is beautiful to explore on foot. In the museum harbor you get a good idea of the activity of the past.

Mill Sea View
After an overnight stay in the attractive Resort Poort van Zeeland, you set off. Just above Hellevoetsluis you pass Molen Zeezicht. This flour mill was built in 1717 as a replacement for a fallen post mill. The name suggests that you can see the sea from the mill, but nothing could be further from the truth. The story goes that the name once emerged from beneath the layers of paint on a fence. A fence that allegedly came from a house in Scheveningen...

Lighthouse Hellevoetsluis
Hellevoetsluis used to be a prosperous town thanks to its port, until a canal was built to provide access to the port of Rotterdam. During the Second World War, the town suffered a serious blow: the Germans demolished a large part of Hellevoetsluis to improve their field of fire. There is a lot to see in the harbor: you will find a lighthouse from 1822, a flour mill from 1801 and the Jan Blanken Dry Dock that was built between 1798 and 1822.
