Waterline walk around Nieuwersluis

Fortress and country estates

Our starting point for the walk is the Zandpad on the right bank of the Vecht, opposite the military buildings. Although these were built within the walls of the 17th century fortress, they all date from the period of the New Dutch Waterline. The Pupil School from 1877, built in neoclassical style, is located on the Zandpad. The inspiring facade inscriptions Trouw tot den Dood and Honor aan de Wapen (Trouw tot den Dood) and Honor to the Arms are striking. In addition, a shed from 1877 and a block of barracks homes in the same style. A little further on under the bridge a bear, remains of the 17th century fortifications.
