De Dellen is a special estate, with its own history. There are many red deer here. Nearby is an observation post on a hill: a good location to observe bellowing deer.
The Dellen
From your starting point you first walk to the De Dellen estate. Characteristic of the area are the forests and heathlands that are crossed by picturesque avenues. There are many red deer living here, perhaps one will cross your path! Until 1800, the area consisted mainly of heathland, after which it was developed as an estate by a general of the Batavian republic. Agricultural lands were created as the heathland became wooded. In 1851 it became the property of meteorologist Buys Ballot.
Burling deer
You continue walking through the woods. How wonderfully quiet it is here on the Veluwe! Enjoy the view from the observation tower on the Holle Berg on the edge of the heath. During the rutting period, from mid-September to mid-October, this is a good place to spot bellowing deer. Trek laced? Don't worry, before you know it you'll be back at Pancake Restaurant De Ossenstal, where you can have a tasty bite to eat.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
