De Dellen is a special estate, with its own history. There are many red deer here. Nearby is an observation post on a hill, a good location to observe bellowing deer.
The Dellen
From your starting point you first walk to the De Dellen estate. The area is characterized by forest and heathland, which are crossed by picturesque avenues. A lot of red deer live here, maybe one will cross your path! Until 1800 the area consisted mainly of heather, then it was cultivated as an estate by a general of the Batavian republic. Agricultural lands were laid out on the heathland became forested. In 1851 it became the property of meteorologist Buys Ballot.
Burrowing deer
You walk further through the woods. How wonderfully quiet it is here on the Veluwe! Enjoy the view from the observation tower on the Holle Berg on the edge of the heath. In the rutting season, from mid-September to mid-October, this is a good place to spot bellowing deer. Tension laced?
