Explore the IJssel valley from the Veluwe

The Veluwe forests are wonderful to cycle through, but it becomes even more fun if you combine this beautiful area with something completely different, such as the IJssel valley. The best of both worlds!

Apeldoorn Canal
First drink a cup of coffee at Pannenkoekenrestaurant De Ossenstal - the terrace is beautifully situated in the middle of the vast forests near Epe. You immediately cycle into nature here, a moment later you are already driving across the heath. But soon you see more and more meadows between the trees: you are approaching the IJssel valley. You pick up the Apeldoorns Canal, where a beautiful cycle path runs along. A little later you can enjoy a beautiful view over the IJssel and the floodplain landscape.

Hawthorns Place
On the other side of the IJssel you drive through the picturesque Wijhe, where you pass the bird-rich Buitenwaarden. In a bend of the river, at the former brick factory on Fortmonderweg, you can climb a watchtower. In cozy Olst you can see the thirteenth-century village church. Take some time for Veluws Streekmuseum Hagedoorns Plaate, a farmyard around a 300-year-old farm. You will find nice exhibitions in the field of regional history and contemporary art.
