Description
In the vicinity of Epe and Oldebroek you cycle through the northeastern part of the Veluwe. The landscape here consists of forests, vast heaths and here and there a small sand drift. This route also takes you through cozy Gelderland towns.
The Zwolle forest
The first part of this route runs entirely through beautiful nature reserves. You get on your bike a bit outside Epe and then you cycle in the direction of Wezep. You cycle through the Zwolle forest near the towns of Hoornerveen and Wapenveld. From 1892 to 1960, drinking water from the Veluwe was pumped through this forest to Zwolle. The kilometers long trench where the water pipes used to be can still be seen here. You then cycle through the towns of Wezep, Oldebroek and't Harde. The last part of the route takes you along the heathlands of the Veluwe.
Farm Museum De Bovenstreek
In the Farm Museum De Bovenstreek you get a good idea of the farming life of the past in this area. The farm was built in 1753 and it has long been inhabited by a family with children. The interior of the farm still looks the same as it did back then. In the cellar there are preserving bottles with vegetables and fruits, in the yard you can still find farm carts and all other items have also been preserved. It's like going back in time.
