Description
In the area of Epe and Oldebroek you cycle through the northeastern part of the Veluwe. The landscape here consists of forests, vast heathlands and here and there a small sand drift. This route also takes you through charming Gelderland towns.
The Zwolle forest
The first part of this route runs entirely through beautiful nature reserves. You get on your bike a little outside Epe and then cycle in the direction of Wezep. Near the towns of Hoornerveen and Wapenveld you cycle through the Zwolle forest. From 1892 to 1960, the Veluwe drinking water was pumped through this forest to Zwolle. The kilometer-long trench where the water pipes used to be located can still be seen here. You then cycle through the towns of Wezep, Oldebroek and 't Harde. The last part of the route takes you past the heathlands of the Veluwe.
De Bovenstreek Farm Museum
In the Farm Museum De Bovenstreek you get a good idea of farm life in the past in this area. The farm was built in 1753 and was inhabited by a family with children for a long time. The layout of the farm still looks the same today as it did back then. In the cellar there are preserving bottles with vegetables and fruits, in the yard you will still find farm carts and all other items have been preserved. It's like going back in time.
