Northwest of 's-Hertogenbosch you walk through the vast polders. You also walk along the Maas and the Engelermeer. Get some fresh air!
Castle
From Café Restaurant Treurenburg you can walk straight into nature. From the Maasdijk you have a beautiful view of the river, the floodplains and the polders. You regularly see a beautiful farm. In Bokhoven you will pass the centuries-old Antonius Abtkerk. On the other side of the road you can see a wall that was once part of a fourteenth-century castle. This castle was destroyed by the French in 1794.
Engelermeer
The polder that you look out on from the Maasdijk is called the Gelderse Waarden. This area was included in North Brabant during the Gelders-Brabant border correction of 1958. You pass Fort Hedikhuizen from 1862. Further on you walk along the Haarsteegse Wiel, which was created in 1610 when a dike was breached. You walk across the dike to the leafy Engelermeer: the remains of an old channel of the Maas from before the thirteenth century. Via Engelen you walk back to Café restaurant Treurenburg.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
