Description

Vast estates, fun museums in unique locations and beautiful nature reserves: that is what awaits you between Heino and Wijthmen. Heino is a village in Overijssel, which is part of the municipality of Raalte.

The first reference to the village is in a charter of the bishop of Utrecht and dates from the year 1236. The hamlet referred to was then called Ter Heyne. The hamlet grew into a real village in the seventeenth century, but real growth only took place after the Second World War. In the centre of the village you can still see a nice sight, which is mainly still used during the annual village festival of Heino: an old village pump. According to an old legend, the pump only gives water to people with a clear conscience.

One of the beautiful estates you will see during your tour is t Rozendael . In 1583,"erve Rozendal\\\" was first mentioned. At that time, it was an old tenant farm that belonged to the Bredenhorst manor. The house has seen several owners come and go, but because the Het Nijenhuis estate was also purchased by the same owner in 1987, a contiguous nature reserve of fields, meadows and forests was created. The house is privately inhabited and can therefore not be visited. An impressive castle stands on the Het Nijenhuis estate. This is one of the best preserved manors in Overijssel. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful landscape and was first mentioned in 1382. After having served as a residence for centuries, the castle was sold in 1934, after which a period of decline began.
The castle was then completely restored and Museum de Fundatie was built in it, making the house fully accessible to the public.

The De Colckhof estate is also centuries old: the beautiful grounds already existed around 1300, on which a neoclassical country house was built in 1840. Romantic English gardens with winding lanes, water features and fairytale views of green fields are home to more than sixty species of birds. The stock dove, the nuthatch and the jackdaw nest in tall trees, while songbirds such as the nightingale, golden oriole, wren and willow warbler prefer to hide in the hedges and along the lanes. Not only feathered animals know where to find De Colckhof; frogs jump in and out of the ponds and newts forage along the banks.

Water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves in, on and around the Wythmenerplas . Water recreation is popular here, both divers and boat owners like to visit the lake. With binoculars you can peer over the water and take a break in the sun along the waterfront, before continuing your journey and returning to the start and end point of the route.
