Alkmaar: historic city full of monuments

It is nice to cycle around Alkmaar through nature and the polders. First you drive over rolling paths through the Schoorlse Duinen. You can enjoy the peace and quiet here and the variety between forest and dunes. Further on you cycle past the Geestmerambacht, an artificial lake surrounded by forest. In Broek op Langedijk you will pass the Broekerveiling. The old village church is also a sight to see. A little later you will pass the Polder Museum Heerhugowaard and see the Ambachtsmolen, a polder mill from 1632. On the Hoornse Vaart you will pass four monumental ironing mills from 1630. On the left you look out over the Oudorperhout, a unique meadow area in the middle of the city. In the center of Alkmaar you will find conviviality and a rich cultural history.
