Alkmaar: historic city full of monuments

Around Alkmaar it is nice to cycle through nature and the polders. First you drive over sloping paths through the Schoorlse Duinen. Here you can enjoy the peace and the alternation between forest and dunes. Further on you cycle along the Geestmerambacht, an artificial lake surrounded by forest. In Broek op Langedijk you will pass the Broekerveiling. The old village church is also a sight to see. A little later you will pass the Poldermuseum Heerhugowaard and see the Ambachtsmolen, a polder mill from 1632. On the Hoornse Vaart you will pass four monumental ironing mills from 1630. On the left you will look out over the Oudorperhout, a unique meadow area in the middle of the city. In the center of Alkmaar you will find cosiness and a rich cultural history.
