Exploring around Renesse

Of course, the beach is the main attraction here, but there's also plenty of beauty to discover in and around Renesse. This route takes you past Moermond Castle, the Vroonsgronden – and the beach!

Moermond Castle
The route starts at Hotel Blooker, a charming hotel in the charming town of Renesse. From here, you stroll along a charming street onto the 45-hectare estate of the magnificent Moermond Castle. This castle originally dates back to the thirteenth century, but in 1953 it was severely damaged by the North Sea flood. In recent years, the damaged walls, including the moat, have been restored. Did you know that the engineers of the Brouwersdam once had their offices here? Not surprising!

Vronengronden
You continue to the coast for a wonderful long beach walk. Only after a considerable distance do you dive back into the dunes to walk back towards Renesse. Here you have a beautiful view of the Vroonsgronden: a sand-drift landscape dating back to the Middle Ages. Centuries of grazing have flattened and eroded this area into a semi-open dune landscape with a few creeks. The area itself is not accessible. The Vroonplas, further along, is a small recreation area on the edge of Renesse.
