Holiday cycling from Renesse

Schouwen-Duiveland is a relaxing country for nature and culture lovers. This route takes you to the Brouwersdam where you can spot seals. You will also discover new nature and an ancient castle.

Spotting seals
This route starts at Hotel Blooker, a hotel in the middle of the pleasant holiday village of Renesse. A perfect base for a cycling holiday on Schouwen-Duiveland, because owner Leo has a passion for cycling. From here you cycle to the Brouwersdam from 1971, the seventh Delta Work. On the dam you can get a breath of fresh air with beautiful views of the North Sea and the Grevelingenmeer. Would you like to spot seals? They like to swim on the sea side of the sluice (bring binoculars!).

Plan Tureluur
At Moriaanshoofd you drive along the Prunje, the oldest polder on the island. The former swamp has been returned to nature thanks to the 'Plan Tureluur' and is now a true bird paradise. You cycle back via Slot Moermond. This castle originally dates from the thirteenth century. In 1953 the castle was seriously damaged by weather and the flood disaster. In recent years, the damaged walls of, among other things, the moat have been restored.
