Cycling holidays from Renesse

Schouwen-Duiveland is a paradise for nature and culture lovers. This route takes you to the Brouwersdam, where you can spot seals. You'll also discover new natural areas and a centuries-old castle.

Seal spotting
This route starts at Hotel Blooker, a hotel in the heart of the charming holiday village of Renesse. It's a perfect base for a cycling holiday on Schouwen-Duiveland, as owner Leo is passionate about cycling. From here, you cycle to the Brouwersdam, built in 1971, the seventh Delta Project. On the dam, you can enjoy a breath of fresh air with stunning views of the North Sea and Lake Grevelingen. Want to spot seals? They love swimming on the seaward side of the drainage sluice (bring your binoculars!).

Plan Tureluur
At Moriaanshoofd, you'll cycle along the Prunje, the island's oldest polder. Thanks to the "Plan Tureluur" (Plan Tureluur), this former swamp has been reclaimed and is now a true bird paradise. You'll cycle back via Moermond Castle. This castle originally dates back to the thirteenth century. In 1953, the castle was severely damaged by weather and the North Sea flood. In recent years, the damaged walls, including the moat, have been restored.
