Cycling through the Betuwe

The Betuwe is a real cycling gem. You will pass through historic towns such as Culemborg and Tiel. In the polder you will find De Regulieren, a special nature reserve, in addition to fruit orchards.

The Regulars
You drive on the dike along the Lazaruswaard, a beautiful piece of nature along the Lek. You cycle into the old center of Culemborg. At the Markt you can see beautiful, well-preserved monuments such as the Town Hall from 1539 and the Lanxmeerpoort. You enter the polder through De Regulieren. This nature reserve consists of a mix of flowery grass and hay meadows, poplar forests and willow pilot whales.

Waal quay
You will pass the former fortified town of Buren, in the polder you will see many orchards and old farms. On the edge of Tiel you drive along the Waalkade, you have beautiful views here. On the Havendijk you can see the Waterpoort from 1647. Further on you pass the picturesque surroundings of Kasteel Zoelen. The building is not accessible, but the centuries-old park, laid out in English landscape style, is. You can still see the Limit Pole on the Beusichemsedijk.

The Limit Pole or Half Hour Pole
A limit pole has stood on the Beusichemsedijk for centuries to mark the border between the county of Culemborg and Buren. At the end of 1993, according to local tradition, this pole was taken home as a souvenir by someone from abroad. A replica was installed in June 2001. The Limit Pole is popularly known as the Half Hour Pole. From this point it was a half hour walk to Culemborg and Beusichem.
